Consultation On Child Safety & Protection

On 10 August 2026, the Don Bosco Child Safety Net Project, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and BREADS Bengaluru, organized a consultation on “Current Challenges in Child Safety and Protection.”
The programme was inaugurated by C. Range Gowda, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of DLSA, who emphasized that child protection is a collective responsibility. He highlighted the free legal aid available to children, women and vulnerable persons through DLSA.
Purnima M., District Child Protection Officer, outlined initiatives such as children’s homes, foster care and sponsorship programmes. She urged stronger coordination among departments to make Davangere a child friendly city.
Manjappa B., Coordinator of the Child Safety Net Project, presented two years of work, noting that 224 children from 200+ migrant families had moved to Davangere. He stressed the need for special measures to protect migrant children and integrate them into education.
Other speakers, including E. Prasanna, Ravi B., Fr. Dr. Nidhin and Dr. Roopa G., raised concerns about child labour, begging, substance abuse and the growing influence of social media.
The consultation united child protection agencies and stakeholders, reaffirming the call for collective action to safeguard children’s rights, dignity and future.
