Sports For Change – 29th November 2025 Don Bosco Child Labour Mission, Davangere
The Don Bosco Child Labour Mission, Davangere organized a vibrant and engaging Sports Day, bringing together children from the centre and neighbouring slum for a day of physical activity and joyful celebration. The event reflected DBCLM’s continued commitment to fostering holistic development and creating positive opportunities for vulnerable children in the city of Davangere.
The programme began at 12:30 pm with a prayer song invoking God’s blessings rendered by Mr. Srinivas B. Fr. Regi Jacob, Director of DBCLM, formally inaugurated the event by lighting the torch, symbolizing unity and the spirit of participation. In his message, he emphasized the transformative role of sports in shaping attitudes, strengthening character and building confidence among children. He urged all participants to embrace the true spirit of sportsmanship and make the most of the opportunities offered.
Mr. Nagaraj H., Outreach Worker of the Open Shelter Project, welcomed the guest and participants. The sports oath led by Mr. Chandra Prakash of mobile clinic Project, instilled a sense of discipline, respect and fair play among the participants. The event was honoured with the presence of Fr. Jolly Jacob, Director of Alurhatti, whose encouragement further elevated the enthusiasm of the children.
The Sports Day was organized under the leadership of Fr. Arun Kumar, Administrator, with dedicated support from the staff team Sujatha, Asha, Avinash, Pavan, Nagaraj and Srinivas who worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth flow of the programme.
The events began with the running race for senior, junior and sub-junior categories, followed by a nutritious lunch provided to all children. The afternoon started with a series of exciting events like 50-meter race, lemon and spoon race, dumbbell race, sack race, shot put, skipping race and frog race. Adding a cheerful touch to the event, the staff members also participated in the shot put competition, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and support.
The Medals and certificates were awarded to the winners, celebrating their effort and achievement. The distribution of snacks marked the conclusion of the programme, sending every child home with smiles and unforgettable memories.
A total of 68 children took part in the Sports Day, including DBCLM inmates and students from nearby slum areas. The event stood as a powerful reminder of the importance of sports in nurturing unity, discipline and healthy recreation. DBCLM continues to champion initiatives that empower children, build confidence and inspire hope for a brighter future.
