Children’s Day Celebration @ GHPS, Gurusiddapura
On 14 November 2025, Don Bosco Davangere under the Child Labour Eradication (CLE) Project organized a vibrant and meaningful Children’s Day celebration at Government Higher Primary School (GHPS), Gurusiddapura, in Jagalur taluk. The event brought together 240 enthusiastic children, teachers, project staff and community leaders to honour the spirit of childhood and reaffirm the commitment to child rights and protection.
The celebration began at 10:00 a.m. with an energetic rally through the streets of Gurusiddapura. Students marched with placards and raised slogans on child rights bringing public attention to the importance of education, safety and opportunities for every child. The rally set a positive tone for the day’s programme.
At 11:00 a.m., the formal stage programme commenced with a prayer song rendered by the students creating a serene and respectful atmosphere. The event was graced by several dignitaries were Mr. Kuberappa, SDMC Member, Mrs. Pushpalatha, Headmistress, GHPS Gurusiddapura, Fr. Regimon Jacob, Director, DBCLM, Fr. Raju Philip, Assistant Director, Sujothi, Alurhatti and representatives from children.
The gathering was warmly welcomed by Mr. Guljarkan Gurani, Assistant Teacher, GHPS Gurusiddapura. The Keynote Address was delivered by Fr. Regimon Jacob, DBCLM Director, Davangere. He engaged the children with an insightful talk on who a child is, the qualities that make childhood unique and the significance of celebrating Children’s Day on November 14th. Adding a joyful touch, he taught the children an action song with dance, which they performed with great enthusiasm.
The Inaugural Speech was presented by Fr. Raju Philip, Assistant Director, Sujyothi Alurhatti. He motivated the children to dream big and make use of every opportunity to grow. This was followed by a brief introduction to the Child Labour Eradication Project by Mr. Nataraj N, Project Coordinator. He explained the project’s objectives and emphasized the rights of children, encouraging them to attend the school and strive towards a bright future.
Mrs. Pushpalatha, Headmistress of GHPS Gurusiddapura, addressed the children with an inspiring Children’s Day message. She highlighted essential values and habits needed for success and reflected on areas where improvement is needed among students today. She also explained key child related laws such as the JJ Act 2015, POCSO Act 2012, Child Marriage Prevention Act, and the Right to Education (RTE) Act, helping children understand the protections granted to them. A touching Children’s Day speech was also delivered by Ms. Divyashree, a 7th standard student, who spoke about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, whose birthday is celebrated as Children’s Day.
The event was concluded with a delightful cultural programme by the GHPS students, featuring a folk dance and a group song that showcased their talents and creativity. Snacks and refreshments were then provided to all the children adding to the joy of the celebration.
As part of the Children’s Month activities, prizes were distributed to those who excelled in various games and cultural competitions. To support their education, notebooks and pens were also given to all students. Hence, the Children’s Day celebration at Gurusiddapura was not only a moment of joy and event but also a reaffirmation of the community’s dedication to protecting children, nurturing their talents and ensuring their right to a happy, safe and dignified childhood.
