World Environment Day @ GHS Sarathi, Davangere

The World Environment Day Programme was conducted on 5th June 2026 at Government High School, Sarathi, Harihar Taluk, Davangere District at 11:00 a.m. with the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” A total of 220 students (109 boys and 111 girls) and 18 teachers participated in the programme.

The programme was graced by Mr. Gonbibappa, President ( SDMC, Government Higher Primary School, Sarathi), The Guests of Honour were Fr. Regi Jacob (Director Don Bosco Davangere), Mrs. Sandyasanth Banavara (Headmistress ) Government High School, Sarathi, Mrs. Vanajakshamma, HM, Government Higher Primary School, Sarathi, Mrs. Sowmya K. M., ECO Teacher, Government High School, Sarathi, and Mr. Manjappa B., Coordinator, CSN Project, Don Bosco Davangere.

The programme began with a rally by the school children carrying placards and raising environmental slogans followed by the planting of saplings by Mr. Gonbibappa and the teachers. The stage programme included a prayer song by Kumari Sneha, a welcome address by Mrs. Padmavathi and an introductory speech by Mr. Honnappa on environmental protection and the ECO Project.

In his address, Fr. Regi Jacob emphasized reducing plastic use and encouraged every child to plant a tree. Mrs. Sandyasanth Banavara spoke about the importance of kitchen gardens and preparing manure for plants. Mrs. Vanajakshamma appreciated Don Bosco for implementing the ECO Project in the school. Mrs. Sowmya K. M. highlighted that environmental awareness is as important as education for students. Mr. Manjappa B. led the oath-taking ceremony for the protection of the environment. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Jamaluddin, Assistant Teacher, Government Higher Primary School, Sarathi.

The programme created a positive impact as members of the public joined the rally along with the children. The President of SDMC assured support in caring for the planted saplings, while the students also took responsibility for nurturing them. Mrs. Sandyasanth Banavara shared that the programme provided valuable information on environmental conservation and Mrs. Sowmya K. M. requested additional awareness sessions on medicinal plants for the children.
