Date: 17 August 2026
Place: Kereyagalahalli & Hullikatte, Davangere Taluk
District: Davangere

A medical camp and awareness programme on Cancer was organized by the mobile clinic team in collaboration with Hemannabettur PHC. The camp ran from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM and was attended by 86 participants (30 male, 56 female).

The medical team, led by Dr. Sneha (MBBS, MD), Mrs. Sunubi (CHO, B.Sc Nursing), and Mr. Santosh (HIO, GNM), conducted health check ups including BP and GRBS, distributed medicines, and referred patients with anemia and high BP to the PHC for further care. Many villagers expressed gratitude for the services, noting the lack of medical facilities nearby.

Awareness sessions were conducted using charts, pamphlets and visual aids. Mrs. Sunubi explained cancer as uncontrolled cell growth, forming tumours or affecting blood. She highlighted common types such as breast, lung, colorectal, prostate and blood cancers. Symptoms discussed included fatigue, fever, weight loss, night sweats, unusual lumps, persistent pain and changes in skin or bowel habits. Causes such as tobacco use, genetics, lifestyle, alcohol, infections, radiation and environmental toxins were emphasized.

Treatment options like surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy were explained, along with precautions: avoiding tobacco, eating a plant rich diet, regular exercise, sun protection, limiting alcohol, vaccinations and early screenings.

Participants learned to recognize warning signs, adopt preventive habits and consult doctors promptly. The programme was well received and created strong awareness in the community.
